good times... good times

so tuesday night was the opening for the July show at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art's Loft Gallery. it was a blast, i had a lot of fun and met some really nice people. who knew that that many people got down to Fort Mason? there easily must have been over a hundred people. lots of artwork, a band, and the wine was flowing (not for me, i'm allergic). i forgot my camera, from being worried about getting there late, but my phone handled the job. Thanks to everyone who dropped by to take a look at the art. the show is up until July 31, so go take a look (need a map?). You can see the work displayed in the show in the previous post. They chose some of the more minimal pieces.. and i thought they looked great together. Big huge thanks to Renee! You rock non-stop. Go visit the Gallery's much bigger brother here. :-)

agh. so it's been forever. but i return bearing some nice news. i have some drawings up in the San Francisco Museum of Modern Arts Loft Gallery until July 31. So if you're in San Francisco and near the Golden Gate Bridge, run your Peggy Fleming legs over to Fort Mason(Building A) and take a look.

one of the fun things about youtube is that you can experience some of the great animated shorts of the past on there. i remember one of the first animation festivals i went to i was struck by this animated short. it was weird, surreal and strangely haunting. it's a bit long at seven minutes, but it's worth it. see for yourself.

astrosketch.jpgi had an old memory of all these grafitti covered walls back in my old home town of detroit,(go pistons) and decided to do a drawing mixing my memory of that old familiar with the strangeness of the unknown, and this is what i came up with. i keep drawing astronauts. i think they represent the alien in a familiar form.. or a visitor. both of which i feel like on a regular basis. anyway, it's another larger piece, i hope it turns out well. it's gonna be complicated, though. my brain is hurting already. ow, stop that.

signs of the times

this piece was kinda difficult in that it was done on starthmore paper rather than canson... i bought two giant rolls of strathmore because i wanted to do some larger drawing... canson is still the king, although this paper is not too bad. it's super thin and kinda fragile. it has a nice "non-showing" tooth to it, but i findit gets really dusty, because it can't retain as much as i wanted it to. anyways, this piece developed pretty well, i was happy with how it turned out. i'm going to try to keep to one new drawing each week, we'll see. this isn't the best photo of it, but i'll replace it later. the title is "detroit xxx ez-hotel sale".
